FAI has made available the tilapia environment indicators score cards for you to download. The cards can be downloaded and printed on A5.
How to read the cards
For each welfare indicator, such as temperature or oxygen, we give it a score using a three-level score system (score 1, 2 and 3). The higher the score, the greater the deviation from the normal condition. For instance, tilapia ideal temperature is between 25 and 32 degrees Celsius. If the farmer measures the water temperature and its value is between this range he gives it a score 1. But if the water temperature is above 38 or below 19 degrees Celsius, the farmer gives it a score of 3. In this case, the water temperature significantly affect the welfare of tilapia, which can lead to severe suffering and even death of the animals.
These cards are part of the tilapia welfare online course focusing on tilapia welfare indicators during the grow out stage. You can join the courses for free here.
